The Human Rights Commission of San Francisco presented the prestigious Hero Award to the Success Center SF’s Founder and Executive Director Liz Jackson-Simpson on July 28, 2016 in the Board of Supervisors’ Chambers at City Hall. “It is indeed an honor to be recognized for the work I’ve dedicated the last 33 years to”, said Ms. Jackson-Simpson. “My goal has always been to help those who need it most – the disenfranchised youth and empower them to become productive citizens contributing to their communities.”

For over 50 years, the Human Rights Commission has grown in response to San Francisco’s mandate to address the causes of and problems resulting from prejudice, intolerance, bigotry and discrimination. They advocate for human and civil rights, investigate and mediate discrimination complaints, resolve community disputes and issues involving individual or systemic illegal discrimination and provide technical assistance and referrals to individuals, community groups, businesses and government agencies related to human rights and social services.

Ms. Jackson-Simpson is among such notable Hero Award recipients as Maxine Anderson, a well- known voting rights advocate and Dr. Clarence B. Jones, an advisor and speech writer for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
