Mary Kay makeup artist/ sales mgr Joyce Filatreau demonstrates her product

Beauty and Inspiring Business Advice Blended Well at the June Ladies Night Event

On June 16th women who came to the Success Center SF Career Center’s Ladies Night got schooled on owning their own business — along with a few makeup tips — when longtime Mary Kay Sales Manager and Makeup Artist, Joyce Filatreau was the speaker for the evening.

One lucky lady, Nicole, volunteered to be the evening’s model, got a free makeover while the other guests attentively watched as Joyce gave lessons in color palette selection, blending, concealing, and eye makeup application.

The evening started with Joyce telling attendees how she started working for Mary Kay. She gave some amusing anecdotes from her career at the company, which started when she found herself in need of a quick career change. It wasn’t long before Joyce realized that working for Mary Kay could not only be financially lucrative but personally rewarding as well. Now making more money than ever, she found herself in charge of her own business. She’s so good at selling Mary Kay products that the company rewarded her with one of their company cars (a white Ford, not the famous pink Cadillac Mary Kay is known for).

Joyce also gave lucky onlookers the inside scoop from her years of experience working with the venerable makeup company. She even doled out a few general start up business tips (along with a few jokes) for those in attendance. Guests munched on free refreshments, provided by the Career Center, while attending the evening’s presentation. Each attendee also received a little gift bag filled with eye makeup remover and mascara generously donated by the YMCA.

Ladies Night is a monthly event, created so that women in the Western Addition area can connect, network, and relax. To make it easier for parents to attend, onsite child watch is also provided at the events by the Western Addition Family Resource Center (WAFRC), a division of the YMCA.
